Attic Fan Installation

Electrical installation for attic ventilation fans, with ventilation needs assessed separately.

Here’s what to know. This guide explains the type of work and why it can be needed. It is not a remote diagnosis or a do-it-yourself wiring tutorial.

What does this involve?

Electrical installation for attic ventilation fans, with ventilation needs assessed separately.

How does it work?

Attic fans use a motor to move attic air, sometimes through a thermostat or humidity control. Ventilation performance depends on more than the fan's electrical feed.

What affects the job?

Air sealing, existing vents, attic access, and heat buildup should be reviewed. An attic fan does not guarantee lower cooling bills.

What should you tell us?

The appliance brand and model, existing wiring or outlet location, and whether another trade is already working on the project. You do not need to know the electrical terms. Tell us what you see and what you want to change.

Electrical safety: Do not take apart switches, outlets, panels, wiring, or equipment based on online advice. If you notice heat, sparks, smoke, or a burning smell, stop using the affected equipment and contact a qualified electrician. For immediate danger or fire, call 911.

Keep safety in mind

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s home electrical checklist explains common warning signs. For generator-related jobs, see the Electrical Safety Foundation International’s generator guidance. Any code or permit decision needs to be checked for the actual property.

Is this what you need help with?

Tell us a little about your project and where you're located. We'll confirm whether it's a job we can take on and explain the next step.
