Here’s what to know. This guide explains the type of work and why it can be needed. It is not a remote diagnosis or a do-it-yourself wiring tutorial.
What does this involve?
Adding flush-mounted floor outlets in large living rooms to avoid extension cords.
How does it work?
Floor outlets place a receptacle where wall outlets are not convenient. Their boxes and covers are designed for foot traffic and floor finishes.
What affects the job?
Floor type, access from below, and moisture or spill exposure affect the design. A regular wall box should not be used in the floor.
What should you tell us?
A picture of the existing outlet or switch, the room where it is located, and whether the problem is new or ongoing. You do not need to know the electrical terms. Tell us what you see and what you want to change.
Keep safety in mind
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s home electrical checklist explains common warning signs. For generator-related jobs, see the Electrical Safety Foundation International’s generator guidance. Any code or permit decision needs to be checked for the actual property.
Is this what you need help with?
Tell us a little about your project and where you're located. We'll confirm whether it's a job we can take on and explain the next step.
