Here’s what to know. This guide explains the type of work and why it can be needed. It is not a remote diagnosis or a do-it-yourself wiring tutorial.
What does this involve?
Securing loose wall boxes or replacing worn-out receptacles where plugs fall out.
How does it work?
A loose receptacle can mean the device, box, or its internal contacts are worn. Plugs that slip out may heat up under load.
What affects the job?
Do not keep bending a plug to make contact. Tell us if you notice looseness, heat, crackling, or discoloration.
What should you tell us?
A picture of the existing outlet or switch, the room where it is located, and whether the problem is new or ongoing. You do not need to know the electrical terms. Tell us what you see and what you want to change.
Keep safety in mind
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s home electrical checklist explains common warning signs. For generator-related jobs, see the Electrical Safety Foundation International’s generator guidance. Any code or permit decision needs to be checked for the actual property.
Is this what you need help with?
Tell us a little about your project and where you're located. We'll confirm whether it's a job we can take on and explain the next step.
