Here’s what to know. This guide explains the type of work and why it can be needed. It is not a remote diagnosis or a do-it-yourself wiring tutorial.
What might be happening?
Urgent evaluation of abnormal popping or arcing sounds from electrical panels.
How does it work?
Popping at an electrical panel may point to arcing or a loose electrical connection. The panel contains dangerous energy even when individual breakers are switched off.
What affects the job?
Do not open the panel or keep operating equipment that is popping, smoking, or hot. Stay clear and arrange urgent professional help; call 911 for fire or immediate danger.
What should you tell us?
What stopped working, when it happens, and any noises, heat, smells, or visible damage. Do not attempt to recreate a fault for a photo. You do not need to know the electrical terms. Tell us what you see and what you want to change.
Keep safety in mind
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s home electrical checklist explains common warning signs. For generator-related jobs, see the Electrical Safety Foundation International’s generator guidance. Any code or permit decision needs to be checked for the actual property.
Is this what you need help with?
Tell us a little about your project and where you're located. We'll confirm whether it's a job we can take on and explain the next step.
